The old town Zadar, used to be called Zara, was decorated according to all the principles of Roman urbanism, five longitudes and a large number of transversal streets dividing the city by a strict geometric order into rectangular quarters – insulates. At the western end of the town, the main square was built (forum), and next to forum there was heightened capitol and temple. In the area facing the sea, the economic square – emporia were set up. It is assumed that in the area of Roman Zadar there was also an amphitheater for the maintenance of bloody gladiator battles, as well as the theater for the preparation of stage games.
