Nikola Tesla

One of the biggest innovators in the history of mankind definitely is the one and only Nikola Tesla.Born in 1856. in a small village in Lika-Croatia province as one of five children of an orthodox priest, Tesla showed great interest in his studies but while attending several colleges in Europe, he lacked the funds to continue so he started to assist in the creation of the first telephone exchange in Budapest, Hungary.
After Budapest, he left for Paris where he worked the company of Thomas Alva Edison where he gained great experience and got plenty of positive recommendations which led him to work for Edison in New York.
After a brief dissension with Edison, Tesla left the company and founded his own. During that period he tried to patent many inventions, not all of them with equal success.
Perhaps the most notable inventions by Tesla was the alternating current which he presented on the Exhibition of Electrical Engineering in Chicago.

The usage of alternating current was tested on the hydropower plants in Niagara Falls and at the very end of the 19th century, he presented the concept of remote control. He received the Thomas Edison medal and plenty of honorary doctorates.

Tesla never got married and he lived in the New Yorker hotel in New York where he also died in 1943. at the age of 86. In honor to him, the New Yorker still keeps his room preserved the way it looked while he lived there and in his birthplace, Smiljan (Croatia/Lika)  stands a memorial center with a museum dedicated to one of the biggest people in history.
