Zagreb – packed with interesting content – this medieval but modern European town has always something for everyone’s taste. Every year, an increasing number of curious tourists visit our city, enjoy the offer and share experiences with their closest friends helping us to spread a good voice about this charming city destination, so this year Lonely Planet has added Zagreb to a list of top destinations. Here is the answer to our favorite question THINGS TO DO IN ZAGREB. Let’s start with culture .. Cultural content is abundant, so in the center of the city, there are more than twenty museums and fifty galleries. It is hard to distinguish which we would recommend visiting because the choice is great and the offer is fascinating, but among the tourists, the favorite are Mimara Museum, Zagreb City Museum, Klovićevi Dvori, MSU, Archaeological Museum… Extremely popular tourist attraction in Zagreb is a newer, but very famous museum with the innovative idea called the Museum of Broken Relationships that delights the youngest visitors who are not overly interested in the typical museum setup. A regular Zagreb tour usually begins or ends at the Ban Jelačić Square and goes along to the Zagreb Cathedral via the Dolac market to the Upper Town. In Lower Town, visitors like to visit Croatian National Theater, Nikola Šubić Zrinski Square, and Botanical Garden. When we are a short distance away from the city center, it is advisable to visit Maksimir with its Zoo, an ideal place for the younger ones, and for those who love recreation Lake Jarun or Bundek. Mirogoj is a beautiful cemetery that we like to call “Outdoor Museum.”
The list of events and manifestation is steadily growing, besides attractions and cultural events, there are some sports and music events, a good selection of cinemas in the narrower and wider center, theatrical performances…
We think it’s important for shopping lovers to emphasize before your arrival, that Zagreb has a strong offer of shopping centers and the wide range of boutiques. Ilica street is ideal for those who do not like shopping centers. Apart from boutiques, there are also shops with traditional delicacies, souvenir shops, bakeries, markets…
For those who prefer luxurious boutiques in one place, we recommend a shopping center located at Kaptol named after its location – Kaptol Center. Also nearby is the Importanne Center and Importanne Galleria, while the other larger shopping centers are away from the center.
Excellent choice of accommodation includes apartments, hotels, and hostels, and the most popular among tourists are certainly Dubrovnik hotel on the main square, Esplanade Zagreb Hotel, Sheraton, The Westin and many others,
More affordable accommodation in hostels can be found at Chillout Hostel Zagreb, The Wallaby House Hostel close to the main bus station, Hostel Shappy, Swanky Mint and much more.
In the gastronomic offer you can find traditional dishes and worldwide specialties, and the favorite little alley among the tourists with affordable food prices near the main square is called Skalinska street so when you are tired of sightseeing, indulge in a pleasant atmosphere, and you won’t even feel the expense.
Have a GREAT Zagreb!
