Venice- a parallel Waterworld
Venice for sure is a place anybody should visit during their lifetime Everything inside is out of this world and marked with some point of history. The city is built on 118 islands and is not approachable by cars, so you have a unique opportunity to explore this town in a gondola – a romantic rowing boat specific for Venice. The city is divided by the Grand Canal, the biggest (and most famous) channel. Besides the Grand Canal, Venice hides over 170 channels that serve instead of streets. For those going by foot, it’s good to know that the channels are connected with over 350 bridges and Ponte di Rialto is the most famous one, standing right next to the beautiful market where you can buy unique hand-made souvenirs such as carnival masks.
The other famous bridge is Ponte dei Sospiri which means “The Bridge of Sighs” because that was the bridge where the Venetian convicts had their last view and sigh moments before execution.
The central Venetian square is the St. Mark’s square with it’s biggest monuments – the Doge’s Palace and the St. Mark’s Basilica, named after the patron of the city.
Venice hides more interesting things to see and experience, and after all the sightseeing, take a break and have a sip of great Venetian coffee followed by some delicious Italian dish.
