ZAGREB Ageless Beauty Of The Capital – City & Panorama Tour
Why that question? Because – Purgers (people of Zagreb that have been living in Zagreb for a long time, even their grandparents were Purgers) used to say ‘Beli Zagreb grad’ or in English ‘White city of Zagreb’, but mainly everything in Zagreb is related to a blue color – buses and trams, Dinamo – famous and beloved football club, and in general as I mentioned – Zagreb is related to blue color…so, that’s a very serious dilemma
ZAGREB- Ageless Beauty of Capital city
Zagreb is the capital and the largest city in Croatia with it’s almost a million inhabitants. It’s located in continental Croatia, between the southern slopes of Medvednica mountain and the banks of the Sava River.
It is famous for its Austro-Hungarian architecture with a large number of beautiful architectural landmarks and buildings. Zagreb has grown on two neighboring hills, Gradec and Kaptol – the core of today’s city and it’s a historical center with The Cathedral built in neo-Gothic style and one of the most valuable monuments of Croatian cultural heritage, like The King Tomislav Square with it’s neo-Classical and Secessionist buildings and palaces, and Ban Jelačić square as the main square with the statue of famous Ban.
The Square is a pedestrian zone and a favorite meeting place for locals – usually under The Clock. According to legend, when the old Ban Josip Jelačić, tired and thirsty, asked the girl Manda (fem. name) to bring him water from the spring, he uttered; “Zagrabi Mando!”(trans. grab the water, Manda) and that’s how ‘the medieval city gets its name Zagreb, and the spring- fountain on the main square “Manduševac” after the girl’s name.
The city is full of green areas and has numerous parks, with a lot of statues and monuments. Eight Parks in Lower Town make the so-called “Lenuzzi’s green horseshoe” (it looks like a green horseshoe from the air) a valuable contribution to urban planning in the 19th century.
